Gtalk is certainly lacking several features that provide it stiff competition with other IM clients (read the missing features here). Among the some features like “not able to sign in as invisible”, “not able to appear invisible to one contact”, we can also not appear idle if we want to.

Gtalk makes the user appear idle if the user do not use the computer for some 10 minutes. Appearing idle on Gtalk is also a symbol of user not sitting at the system.
