We tend to install new and new software on a regular basis without thinking about the load that is going to be put over the performance of the CPU.
One such load is of the startup programs. Whatever application we install creates its entry into the list of the startup programs making our system boot longer than usual. This is when we say our system has started performing slow.
The list can be seen or modified by typing msconfig in the run box but the tool called Disable Startup is better than this default utility. Disable Startup can be both startup manager and monitoring software, the most important features of this software is that it can lock your Windows Startups from changes, stop all unwanted application add itself into Windows Startups.
Whenever a change is made, you will be notified and given a choice to either allow the change or not to change. The tool is quite small and also free.
