What is alg.exe and why is it running?
Alg.exe is a process that is a part of Application Layer Gateway Service which is a component of the Windows Operating System. The service is used by a third party tool to connect to the internet. The process is important for running tools that require the internet connection like IM, Bit Torrents and FTP.
The service allows software to access files or applications that are present on another system even in presence of a firewall. The service was developed to supplement the firewall protection of a network. The alg.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32.
The process is important for the computer and should not be killed.
