Worrying about the email that you sent too early? It can happen to anyone that mistakenly we send out the email either to the unintended recipient or the appropriate recipient but the content that he shouldn’t read. It is the human nature to commit mistakes and sending out wrong emails to the recipient is a common one too.
Usually there is no way to recall or undo the emails sent online since the emails that are sent gets delivered within seconds. There is no way to intrude the recipient’s inbox and delete the email however we wish there could have been one. The speed, with which the email servers send out the emails, can’t be controlled.
Thus to have this overcome, there is one feature in Gmail (disabled by default though) with which you can undo the emails sent within certain frame of time.
How this works in Gmail:
Actually there is an experimental feature in Gmail, which schedules the email to be sent for the specified time in a queue and delivers it after that time. This enables the user to cancel or recall the email he sent within that time, after which (and after the email had been delivered) there is no way to recall it.
How to enable:
Go to Settings -> Labs tab. Search for the feature called “Undo Send by Yuzo F”. Click the Enable button and make sure to save the changes. You can also set the time frame of the delivery which is set to 10 secs by default. Go to Settings again, and this time in General tab. Watch out for the Undo Send option, and change the time accordingly.
Now if you wish to undo the sent email, then click on the link “Undo” that appears after you send the email.
It would be interesting to note here that this feature will delay the delivery of your emails by the time that you set for Undo Send. But we still like this feature for the option of correcting something that couldn’t have been otherwise.
