Good news for the people who were using Windows 8 Consumer preview, Microsoft has finally announced three official new editions of Windows 8. As Windows 7 has several versions from starter to ultimate to choose from, Windows 8 offers only 3 editions which will not make it much confusing for the users.
The three editions namely Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro for PCs run on x86 processors (both 32/64 bit) and Windows RT for tablets run on ARM processors. If you are using Windows 7 starter, home basic or home premium then Windows 8 and Windows 8 pro does not allow you to upgrade your system.
All the three versions do not have any Windows store and Internet Explorer 10 is also missing. Other features like picture passwords, remote desktop, USB tethering, exchange active synchronization and Windows defender is also unavailable in all the three editions.
Other than these three editions there will be another edition which would be specially designed for enterprises. Windows 8 Enterprise edition will have all the features of Windows 8 Pro and also the features which are required for IT organizations that enable PC management and deployment, advanced security, virtualization, new mobility scenarios, etc.

Basically Windows RT is actually made for ARM tablets and will only be available pre-installed on PCs and tablets powered by ARM processors.
