What is the gegl-0.0 Folder in Documents Folder?

I have been seeing this new folder called gegl-0.0 in the Documents section of my computer and have no idea of what it is and what it does. The name of the folder is such that even it is difficult to guess about its details. Moreover I didn’t even create this folder, then how did it come in my system?

Now this was a concern for me as it could be a malware about which I have no idea. So if you are also having this folder in your system and have no clue what so ever then this article will help you in understanding it.

When I started researching about this folder I found that this folder named gegl-0.0 was created in my system automatically but after I installed the tool GIMP. I tried deleting this folder again and again but this was also created again each time. The files that are present inside this folder is used for plug-ins that are used while using GIMP.

GIMP is a photo editing tool so if you are having it in your PC then chances are this folder gegl-0.0 is also present in your Documents folder of your system. This folder was supposed to be installed in the installation directory but due to some error this was not the case.

So there is nothing to worry about, and you may remove this folder if you are not using GIMP any more.

gegl-0.0 is a Gimp file and not malware. Still, it’s annoying to see it. Easiest and quickest way to get rid of it is to change it’s properties to “Hidden”, then you won’t see it.

So, just, right click on the folder, Go down to “Properties” click it, select “Hidden”. Then OK and you’re done.

And as the English say, “And Bob’s your uncle”.
