WordAds by WordPress: Adsense alternative?

If you are a blogger and have a WordPress blog then you might be already aware of the news. WordPress, day before yesterday, announced the launch of WordAds which is its new ad service that can be used by WordPress blog owners as an Adsense alternative.

While Google’s Adsense have been with us till date and is the first choice for all the bloggers across the globe, we will have to see how this WordAds service turns up. The service is for the blog owners with the WordPress.com users who can sign up with this ad service and use it on their blog.

You might, already, know that WordPress.com provides user with some blog name like name.wordpress.com and is a free service to use. To start WordAds, WordPress had teamed up with Automattic and Federated Media Publishing. Apart from WordPress.com blogs, bloggers who have publicly visible blogs with custom domain names can also make use of this service. However in that case, the blog would be selected on the basis of traffic, user engagement, language used and also on the type of content of the blog.

As per WordPress:
We’ve resisted advertising so far because most of it we had seen wasn’t terribly tasteful, and it seemed like Google’s AdSense was the state-of-the-art, which was sad. You pour a lot of time and effort into your blog and you deserve better than AdSense.

WordAds have many good brands who will be displaying high quality ads, this is where Federated Media will help. Now the question is, will it be fine with Google to signup for WordAds or will they make any changes in their policy? For me, as of now, WordAds sounds great, how about you?

  1. I use the free wordpress.com blog and have done so now for about a year. My daily views are growing a little and I have wondered about the ability to make money from it. I know that Google’s AdSense can be used on privately owned sites fairly easily, as I used to have it running on another site (hardly got any views a day though) but the type of adverts that were placed on there were a bit strange at times, but I was unable to select as to the type of companies that I preferred to have displayed.
Hopefully WordPress do team up with a decent company and allow us a bit of control as to the type of adverts that are displayed.
Is there an ETA on when we can start to test out this feature?
